Costing is a critical part of the financial security of small charities. Being able to understand our costs and their relationship to each other and to our income can help us build longer term financial resilience. This session will comprise an overview of the theory, a review of best practice, a case study to put what we learn into practice and lots of time to share experiences and learn together.

What will be covered?

In this practical workshop we will:

-    Revisit the first principles of costing; what are the different types of cost we incur and how we treat them
-    Review how to allocate direct costs and apportion shared and support costs on a fair and reasonable basis
-    Explore the challenges of securing full cost recovery and how we can navigate them
-    Explore how we can use costing to strengthen our financial security and longer term financial resilience
