1. An introduction to practical evaluation – why asking ‘what do I want to know’ is a good place to start, and a quick look at impact measurement and what measures do
2. Collecting your data – the different types of data collection methods available and what they tell us
3. Which method, and why? – A practical example
4. An introduction to writing surveys
   1. Basic mistakes and how to avoid them
   2. Survey questions, what they do, and what they will tell you
   3. Basic measurement (how to write questions using a scale)
5. An introduction to evaluation using groups of people (focus groups, group interviews, and evaluation activities)
   1. What the difference, and when to do them
6. Evaluation administration – a quick look at consent to use data and other ‘ethical’ issues.
7. Evaluation clinic – ask us about a challenge you have!

Trainer:

Jason Pollard has over 15 years’ experience designing, implementing, and project managing evaluation programmes, and using data to support business development and bid writing. Working with national and international organisations in the voluntary sector (Action for Children, The Children’s Society, Sense, NAVCA, and The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts) and for Government offices (The Charity Commission) Jason has a strong understanding of how data can support charities to deliver effective programmes and meet their objectives. Community Impact CIC was founded in 2021 to support small charities understand the impact they have, use data in support of their work, and become financially sustainable.
